Man of the moment Tom Dixon, a veritable god when it comes to design – what that man can’t do with a bit of metal isn’t worth seeing.
The self taught British designer has had an amazing career with acclaimed design projects Shoreditch House and the Mondrian hotel at Sea Containers House, featuring a sweeping copper-clad hull in reception - wow. Amazingly he has also found time to open a successful restaurant – the Dock Kitchen – where he occasionally pulls the odd shift or two.
I’ve been coveting the tray (and it shall be mine) from his Form collection for some time now... spun brass, polished then dipped in a warm gold wash to give a subtle matt surface – although lovely with the accompanying tea set, it’s just crying out for a cocktail shaker and some elegant glassware to my mind.
He brought out a range of playful stationery earlier in the year made with intricate metal work and his lighting range is nothing short of stunning.
His latest project has also turned my head - ‘Brew’ paying homage to the art of coffee making and celebrating the ritual of brewing and serving coffee. The luxe set includes all the tools you need from stacking espresso cups to a biscuit tin, all made from stainless steel with a coating of shiny copper...too beautiful, but form an orderly queue as it's not available until September.
I can’t wait to see what he does next – watch this space!
